「真正的宗教是一種有意義的生活方式，讓人充滿活力地面對日常生活的平凡現實。然而，若宗教要激發個人的品格發展，增強人格的整合，就不能被標準化。若它要激發對經驗的評價，並作為一種價值的誘餌，就不能被刻板化。若宗教要促進至高的忠誠，就不能被形式化。」
“True religion is a meaningful way of living dynamically face to face with the commonplace realities of everyday life. But if religion is to stimulate individual development of character and augment integration of personality, it must not be standardized. If it is to stimulate evaluation of experience and serve as a value-lure, it must not be stereotyped. If religion is to promote supreme loyalties, it must not be formalized.”---99:4-3
